19 March Samantha and her daughter Juliette will travel to Nepal to help run our second Free Health Camp in Nuwakot. During our first Health Camp in 2023 more than 200 villagers received free healthcare and we would like to set the same goal for a second time.

Computer maintenance

In 2021 we’ve arranged 5 computers and a printer for the Saraswoti Primary School located in the hills of Nuwakot. Unfortunately, after four years of heavy use, most computers no longer worked. Fortunately, the new director of the school, Mr. Raju Adhikari, ensured that the computers were repaired and we reimbursed the costs. We’re delighted that the children can continue learning software programs, such as Word en Excel.

19 Maart reizen Samantha en haar dochter Juliette naar Nepal om mee te helpen met het uitvoeren van onze tweede Free Health Camp in Nuwakot. Tijdens de eerste Free Health Camp in 2023 hebben maar liefst 200 dorpsbewoners gratis gezondheidszorg ontvangen en dat willen we graag voor een tweede keer bewerkstelligen.

Onderhoud computers

In 2021 hebben we 5 computers en een printer geregeld voor de Saraswoti Primary School gevestigd in the heuvels van Nuwakot. Na vier jaar intensief gebruik werkten de meeste computers helaas niet meer. Gelukkig heeft de nieuwe directeur van de school, Mr. Raju Adhikari, ervoor gezorgd dat de computers werden gerepareerd en hebben wij de kosten daarvoor vergoed. Nu kunnen de kinderen weer software programma’s leren, zoals Word en Excel, en kan de printer worden gebruikt voor het uitprinten van formulieren.

The end of 2024 is in sight and therefore time for an update of our latest projects. Read more below about new tracksuits for students at a small primary school and support for a poor Dalit community in the hills of Nepal:

Tracksuits for 45 children

On November 19 we distributed tracksuits, t-shirts, writing materials, and sports items to the 45 students of the Bhumidevi Basic School. We also handed out four white blackboards and the game ‘carrom game’. Carrom game is a classic disc throwing table game from India and Southeast Asia and also very popular in Nepal.

Ram traveled to the school by jeep, which is high up in the hills of Nuwakot. On arrival he enjoyed a warm welcome from the children and teachers. Many orange flower garlands were presented and he also received a beautifully framed certificate as a token of appreciation. Everyone was extremely grateful for this support and it gives extra motivation for the children to attend the lessons.

Warm blankets for poor community

On December 21 we distributed warm blankets to a poor community of 26 Dalit families in the Nuwakot district, about 80 km from Kathmandu. Nepal retains its age-old caste system. Dalits belong to the lowest caste and are seen as the discriminated people under this system. In reality, this means restrictions on the use of public services, low economic opportunities and general neglect by the state and society. These families do not have their own piece of land and work on the land owned by other families for a low wages.

We also handed out sacks of rice, salt, lentils, and oil. The blankets were purchased in Kathmandu and the sacks of rice and other food at the local market. All the belongings were transported to the village by a large jeep with a loading platform. The joy was enormous and we hope that this kind of support will provide some relief in their daily lives.

Raising funds for our projects

On August 29 we attended the Scoriton Country Show & Sports in England. It was a fantastic day, full of fun. Our stall was colorful and creative as always. We sold beaded wallets and dream catchers from Bali and wood carvings and bracelets from Nepal. Samantha’s crocheted key rings were also very popular. The proceeds were no less than £315, which will entirely benefit our projects in Nepal.

The Christmas market took place on 30 November at Mount Kelly School in Tavistock, England, and of course the Laxmi Support Foundation was also present. We fully enjoyed the Christmas carols sung by the various children’s choirs from the primary school and college and raised a fantastic amount of £195. We would like to thank everyone who bought something nice at our stall.

Het einde van 2024 is in zicht en daarom tijd voor een update van onze laatste projecten. Lees hieronder meer over nieuwe trainingspakken voor studenten van een kleine basis school en ondersteuning aan een arme Dalit gemeenschap in de heuvels van Nepal:

Trainingspakken voor 45 leerlingen

Op 19 november 2024 hebben we trainingspakken, t-shirts, schrijfmaterialen, en sport artikelen aan de 45 studenten van de Bhumidevi Basic School uitgedeeld. Ook hebben we vier witte schoolborden en het spel ‘carromgame’ overhandigd. Carromgame is een klassiek tafelspel met het gooien van schijven uit India en Zuidoost-Azië en ook zeer populair in Nepal.\

Ram is met de jeep naar de school afgereisd, wat hoog in de heuvels van Nuwakot ligt. Daar kreeg hij een warm welkom van de kinderen en leraren. Er werden veel oranje bloemenkransen aan Ram uitgereikt en ook ontving hij een ingelijst certificaat als blijk van waardering. Iedereen was ontzettend dankbaar voor deze ondersteuning. Het geeft een extra motivatie om naar school te gaan en de lessen te volgen.

Warme dekens voor arme gemeenschap

Op 21 december hebben we warme dekens uitgedeeld aan een arme gemeenschap van 26 Dalit families in het Nuwakot district, ongeveer 80 km van Kathmandu. Nepal behoudt zijn eeuwenoude kastensysteem. Dalits behoren tot de laagste kaste en worden gezien als de gediscrimineerde mensen onder dit systeem. In realiteit betekent dit beperkingen op het gebruik van openbare voorzieningen, lage economische kansen en algemene verwaarlozing door de staat en de samenleving. Deze families hebben geen eigen stuk land en werken op het land van andere families voor een laag loon.

Ook hebben we zakken rijst, zout, linzen, en olie overhandigd. De dekens zijn gekocht in Kathmandu en de zakken rijst en andere etenswaren op de lokale markt. Alle spullen zijn met een grote jeep met laadbak naar het dorp in de heuvels gebracht. De blijdschap was ontzettend groot en we hopen dat dit kleine beetje hulp wat verlichting geeft in het dagelijks leven.

Laxmi Support staat op de markt

Op 29 augustus waren we aanwezig op de Scoriton Country Show & Sports in Engeland. Het was een fantastische dag, vol gezelligheid. Onze kraam was zoals altijd kleurrijk en creatief. Zo verkochten we kralen portemonneetjes en dromen vangers uit Bali en houtsnijwerk en armbandjes uit Nepal. Ook de gehaakte sleutelhangers van Samantha waren erg in trek. De opbrengst was maar liefst £315 wat geheel ten goede komt aan onze projecten in Nepal.

Op 30 november vond de kerstmarkt plaats op de Mount Kelly School in Tavistock, Engeland. Ook hier was Laxmi Support van de partij. We hebben genoten van de kerstliedjes gezongen door de diverse kinderkoren van de basis school en het college. We hebben een fantastisch bedrag van £195 opgehaald. Graag willen we iedereen bedanken die iets leuks gekocht hebben op onze kraam.

Grote dank gaat uit naar al onze sponsors van het afgelopen jaar. Zonder deze hulp kunnen wij onze projecten simpelweg niet uitvoeren! Wij wensen iedereen een 
VROLIJK KERSTFEEST!

We’re excited to give you an update about our latest projects for the children of Nepal and once again we have been quite busy. Read more below about the projects successfully completed in April and May:

Computer and printer

Yedu Kumari Sapkota, the headmaster of the Chakreswor Primary School in the village of Budhasing, has asked us several times for a computer and printer, as this would make teaching a lot easier. At the end of May we saved enough sponsorship money to make Yedu’s wish come true. Main software programs, such as Word and Excell, are installed on the computer and will be used for printing teaching materials, school forms and administrative work. Yedu and her team were extremely happy with this support.

Sports items for three schools

A very nice project is the distribution of sports items to three schools in the Nuwakot district. Purchased in Kathmandu and transported to the villages in the hills by taxi. The sports items consisted of footballs, volleyballs, badminton and tennis rackets, skipping ropes, and much more. The children had such fun playing football, and trying out all the other sports. Sponsoring of two brothers

At the end of April we sponsored Sulab and Biblab from Chitwan for a second year with their education. Biplab is 7 years and is in class 3. Sulab is 12 years and is in class 8. The sponsorship consists of annual school fees, new uniforms, books and school materials. This support gives the children the opportunity to study at the local private school, Panchakanya Vidhya Mandir, where the standard of education is higher than at the nearby government school. We wish the boys all the very best for the coming year,  and our aim is to continue supporting the brothers with their education in the future.

After the monsoon rains in Nepal, we will start up some new projects. We would like to thank our sponsors for their continued support, this is so very much appreciated.

Het is weer tijd voor een update van onze laatste projecten uitgevoerd in april en mei voor de kinderen in Nepal en we hebben wederom niet stil gezeten. Lees hieronder meer over drie met succes afgeronde projecten:

Computer en printer

Yedu Kumari Sapkota, het schoolhoofd van de Chakreswor Primary School in het dorp Budhasing, heeft ons diverse malen om een computer en printer gevraagd, omdat dit het lesgeven een stuk vergemakkelijkt. Eind mei hadden we genoeg sponsorgeld bij elkaar gespaard om tot aktie over te kunnen gaan. Op de computer zijn de basis software programma’s geïnstalleerd en zal gebruikt worden voor het uitprinten van lesmaterialen, school formulieren en administratieve werkzaamheden. Yedu en haar team waren ontzettend blij met deze ondersteuning.

Sportartikelen voor drie scholen

Een erg leuk project was het uitdelen van sportartikelen aan drie scholen in het Nuwakot district. Ingeslagen in Kathmandu en met een taxi naar de scholen gebracht. Voetballen, volleyballen, badminton en tennisrackets, touwtje springen, en nog meer. De kinderen hadden veel plezier op het speelveld met alle nieuwe spullen. Bekijk de foto’s hieronder:

Sponsoring twee broers

Eind april hebben we Sulab en Biblab uit Chitwan voor een tweede jaar gesponsord met hun schoolopleiding. Biplab is 7 jaar en zit in klas 3. Sulab is 12 jaar en zit in klas 8. De sponsoring bestaat uit schoolgeld, nieuwe uniformen, boeken en schoolmaterialen. Door deze ondersteuning hebben de kinderen de kans om te studeren op de lokale privéschool, Panchakanya Vidhya Mandir, waar het niveau van het onderwijs hoger ligt dan op de nabijgelegen school van de overheid. Ons plan is om de broers in de komende jaren te blijven ondersteunen.

Na de moesson regens in Nepal starten we weer nieuwe projecten op. Graag willen wij onze sponsors hartelijk danken voor de steun, zo kunnen we blijven doorgaan met nieuwe akties voor de kinderen in Nepal.

Trainingspakken Gaureshwori School

Vlak voor de kerstdagen hebben we trainingspakken, schriften en schrijfmaterialen uitgedeeld aan de 35 kinderen van de Gaureshwori Basic School, gelegen in het Nuwakot district. De kinderen komen uit families, die behoren tot de lagere kaste van de samenleving. Ram heeft 35 zwart-rode trainingspakken op de lokale markt gekocht en de naam van de school is op de voor- en achterkant van de jas gedrukt. De kinderen waren ontzettend blij met deze hulp.

Tracksuits Gaureshwori School

Just before Christmas, we distributed tracksuits, school notebooks and writing materials to the 35 children of the Gaureshwori Basic School, located in the district of Nuwakot. All the children come from lower caste families. Ram sourced 35 black and red coloured tracksuits from the local market. The school name was printed on the front and back of the jacket. The children were so delighted with this kind of support.

Recently we have succesfully completed a number of projects. Read more below:

Dashain festival at Hopeful Home

In October 2023 we sponsored the Dashain festival for the children of Hopeful Home. It is the most important and auspicious Hindu festival of the year. Ram, together with Gopini, purchased all groceries for the party at the local market.

During the festival offerings are made to the goddess Durga and afterwards a delicious meal is served. We stocked up on goat meat, rice, spices, cooking oil, and soda drinks, as well as shampoo, hair brushes, soap, and more. The children received new clothes, which made them really happy. We also bought 23 colorful sheets for the bunk beds.

Tracksuits for 280 students

At the end of November we distributed blue tracksuits to 280 students from three different schools in the district of Nuwakot. In advance Ram had received a list with all the sizes of the children. The clothing was made in a factory in Kathmandu. Ram hired a 4×4 jeep to transport all the tracksuits to the villages in the hills outside the capital’s valley, about a three hour drive.

Upon arrival Ram and his wife Saraswati received a warm welcome with lots of orange marigold garlands, red tika powder on their foreheads and speeches from the school committee and district head. In total we distributed 124 tracksuits to Shree Saraswoti School, 144 to Chandi Primary School and another 6 to Annapurna Basic School. Quite a few children come from the lower caste of society, and for them this support is especially important.

A week later, Ram handed out another 16 tracksuits to a group of older students. They were happily surprised as they didn’t expect it. The project was also mentioned on a number of online news websites, such as the Dabali Khabar, Bidur Khabar and the Routine Nuwakot.

Upcoming project

These are the pupils of the Gaureswori Basic School. The children belong to the lower caste of society. In the coming weeks we would like to hand out tracksuits, notebooks and writing materials to this small school. A tracksuit costs about 10 Euro on the market. Recentelijk hebben we een aantal projecten succesvol afgerond. Lees hieronder meer:

Dashain festival in Hopeful Home

In oktober 2023 hebben we het Dashain festival voor de kinderen van Hopeful Home gesponsord. Het is het belangrijkste Hindu festival van het jaar. Ram is samen met Gopini op stap geweest om de boodschappen in te slaan voor het feest op de lokale markt.

Tijdens het festival worden er offers gebracht aan de godin Durga en daarna wordt er lekker gegeten. We hebben geitenvlees, rijst, kruiden, kookolie, en cola ingeslagen en ook shampoo, haarborstels, zeep en nog meer. De kinderen kregen ook nieuwe kleren, en daar waren ze maar wat blij mee. Daarnaast hebben we 23 kleurrijke lakens voor de stapel bedden gekocht.

Trainingspakken voor 280 leerlingen

Eind november hebben we blauwe trainingspakken uitgedeeld aan 280 leerlingen van drie verschillende scholen in het Nuwakot district. Vooraf heeft Ram een lijstje ontvangen met daarop alle maten van de kinderen. De kleding is in een fabriek gemaakt in Kathmandu. Ram heeft een 4×4 jeep gehuurd om alle trainingspakken te vervoeren naar het dorp in de heuvels van Nuwakot, zo’n drie uur rijden vanaf de hoofdstad.

Ram en zijn vrouw Saraswati kregen een warm welkom bij aankomst met kettingen gemaakt van oranje goudsbloemen, rode tika poeder op hun voorhoofd en speeches van het school committee en district hoofd. In totaal hebben we 124 trainingspakken aan de Shree Saraswoti School uitgedeeld, 144 aan de Chandi Primary School en nog eens 6 aan de Annapurna Basic School. Een groot aantal kinderen komen uit de lagere kaste van de samenleving, en vooral voor hun is deze ondersteuning belangrijk.

Een week later heeft Ram nog eens 16 trainingspakken gebracht voor een groep grotere kinderen. De kinderen waren ontzettend blij met deze hulp. Ook werd het project vermeld op een aantal online nieuws websites, zoals de Dabali Khabar, Bidur Khabar en de Routine Nuwakot.

Nieuw project

In de komende weken willen we graag trainingspakken, schriften en schrijfmaterialen uitdelen. Een trainingspak kost ongeveer 10 Euro op de markt. Doneer nu als je hieraan wilt bijdragen.
